Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission Presents 2014 Art Poster

Interim Cultural Affairs Director Pam Andros, 608.266.5915
County Executive

The 2014 Art Poster from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission now is available by voluntary donation at locations throughout Dane County.  This year’s poster features “Steadfast” by Dane County resident and nationally recognized artist  Kay Brathol-Hostvet.  She is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, and her pastel and acrylic paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the Midwest.

“Steadfast” is a wonderful result of the artist’s  primary focus on the Midwestern landscape .  As she describes in her artist statement, Kay’s need to represent the beauty of the upper Midwest stems from her rural upbringing, contemplation of our relationship to the land, and an art practice based on a belief in painting what you love.  Carefully studied, designed, and beautifully rendered, Kay’s work succeeds in capturing the experience of place and all of the feelings that they invoke.  She describes Dane County landscapes “a potpourri of beautiful lakes and streams, woodlands and meadows, and some of the state's richest farmland, which is often handed down from generation to generation”.

An ongoing tradition, the Commission’s fine art poster helps keep our community engaged with the arts, ideally with citizens collecting each one and proudly displaying them year after year.  Commission Interim Director Pam Andros remarked, “once again, I am very fortunate to be involved with presenting the Dane County art poster, and am so grateful to Alliant Energy who makes the poster possible.   I often receive phone calls from people across the country asking for one of our posters, often telling me  ‘I love them because they always remind me of home’”.

“Like many Dane County residents, I look forward to this time of year when the Cultural Affairs Commission presents exceptional artwork from a local artist.  Especially after our long cold winter, Steadfast is a welcome sight, a beautiful work from an incredibly skilled artist – one we are very fortunate to have here in Dane County” added Dane County Executive Joe Parisi.
