DANE COUNTY, Wis. — On Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, the Dane County Board of Supervisors officially recognized Nov. 11, 2026 as Veterans Day and November 2026, as National Veterans and Military Families Month throughout Dane County. The board passed 2026 RES-207 to honor all veterans and currently-serving military personnel for their service and express appreciation and gratitude to the families who support them throughout their military journeys.
The 2026 theme, “Honoring All Who Served,” recognizes and honors all veterans regardless of when, where or how long they served, while reminding us of the importance of gratitude to those who have defended our freedoms with courage, sacrifice and dedication.
“Having served in the Air Force Reserves, I know that service does not end when someone takes off the uniform,” said Supervisor Paula Brandmeier (District 20), who read the resolution. “Veterans come home carrying experiences that shape the rest of their lives, and so do the families who waited for them. This month is about recognizing all of them, and about making sure the support they have earned is actually there when they need it.”
Veterans make up 4% of the county population, not including their families, and often return with or develop needs for support related to their dedicated service. These needed supports include access to physical and mental healthcare, finding safe and secure employment, and acquiring affordable housing and education.
The board recognized the work of the Dane County Veterans Service Office, which works year-round with a team of committed staff who advocate and assist nearly 30,000 veterans, dependents, and survivors who call Dane County home. The Veterans Service Office serves as an advocate and focal point informing, coordinating, and integrating services for veterans and their dependents, including finding and securing local, state, and federal benefits, housing, and support.
“Thank you to the Dane County Board of Supervisors for recognizing our nation’s veterans and the sacrifices of military families,” said Dan Connery, director of the Dane County Veterans Service Office. “In honoring our veterans, we must strive to extend beyond recognition and ensure we have the resources necessary to provide timely access to the services and benefits they have earned.”
The Dane County Board of Supervisors reaffirms its gratitude for all veterans, currently-serving military personnel, and their families.
