Resolution affirms commitment to dignity, equity, and justice for all residents
DANE COUNTY, Wis. — On Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, the Dane County Board of Supervisors officially recognized December 2025 as International Human Rights Month. The board passed 2025 RES-250 to mark this observance and affirm the county’s commitment to protecting and advancing human rights for every resident.
“Recognizing International Human Rights Month reminds us that dignity, equity, and justice must guide our work every day,” said County Board Chair Patrick Miles. “As a community, we share the responsibility to ensure every resident can live safely, participate fully, and be treated with respect. This resolution reflects the county board’s ongoing commitment to protecting human rights across Dane County.”
The board also commended the work of Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin, Inc. (CACSCW), which for more than 50 years has partnered with communities to address poverty, housing instability, food insecurity, and social and economic inequities across the region.
“Community Action Coalition is proud to receive this recognition during International Human Rights Month,” said Meghan Mietchen, executive director of CACSCW. “For over 50 years, we have worked alongside Dane County and community partners to break down systemic barriers and expand access to housing, food security, and economic stability. This recognition reinforces our shared responsibility to protect human rights and to ensure that all residents can live with dignity and possibility.”
“This year’s observance theme, ‘Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials,’ is a reminder that human rights are not abstract ideals,” said Supervisor Colin Barushok (Dist. 1), who read the resolution. “They’re the daily necessities we all depend on: food, housing, education, community, and safety. Human rights reflect the same foundational values and purpose that define our nation. I’m pleased to join my colleagues in affirming these values, recognizing International Human Rights Month, and recommitting to protecting the dignity of every resident.”
The Dane County Board of Supervisors reaffirms its commitment to strengthening human rights protections through continued policy work, community investments, and collaboration with organizations dedicated to advancing civil and human rights.
