The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the WI State Patrol, Monona, Madison, and McFarland Police Departments on the investigation into Christopher Brugger's criminal actions on Saturday, September 27th.
Brugger, age 36 of Fitchburg, was operating a flatbed tow truck when he led multiple police agencies on a pursuit, which ended in McFarland when he hit a Madison Police squad car, seriously injuring Officer Ryan Kimberly. Officer Kimberly’s K9 Partner, Freddie, sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Monona Police contacted Brugger at a gas station on Broadway St., after citizens reported seeing his tow truck driving erratically.
“We wish Officer Kimberly a full and swift recovery and will ensure he receives the care and resources needed during this period,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett.  “Concurrently, we are committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation into this matter. We will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of justice and will hold Mr. Brugger fully accountable for his actions.”
Dane County Sheriff’s Office detectives have compiled evidence and information to support referring a charge of 1st Degree Reckless Injury to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office. Other police agencies involved are referring additional charges, including a felony OWI charge, possession of Methamphetamines, and Resisting/Eluding.
Brugger remains in the Dane County Jail.
