MADISON, Wis. – From traffic crashes to cardiac arrests, emergency medical service providers work every day to save lives. May 18–24 is Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, and Dane County offers its thanks to the people who are on the front lines providing critical medical care at the scene of an incident and en route to hospitals.

“Our EMS providers are everyday heroes,” said Dane County Executive Melissa Agard. “They show up in moments of crisis with skill, compassion, and courage. This EMS Week, I encourage everyone in our community to take a moment to thank our paramedics, EMTs, and first responders. Their dedication helps keep Dane County safe, and we’re incredibly grateful for their service.”

The theme of this year’s EMS Week is “We Care. For Everyone.” It’s a recognition of how providers nationwide work each day to give the highest quality care to the communities they serve. That includes undergoing regular training and keeping licensures current to ensure readiness and professionalism.

EMS Week is also a reminder that first responders must be able to care for themselves as well. Through programs such as peer support, counseling resources, and therapy dog visits, Dane County is committed to ensuring those who help others have the support they need when they need it most.

“Many of the calls first responders go on can be extremely traumatic, and it’s important that they are able to call for help when they need it most,” said Dane County Emergency Management Director Charles A. Tubbs, Sr. “Dane County has worked to build a network of support for EMS and other emergency personnel, to make sure they have access to the mental health resources they may need.”

The Dane County Emergency Medical Services Division coordinates, advises, and oversees local EMS programs within the county. The division, which is part of Dane County Emergency Management, works closely with medical professionals to ensure high-quality care is delivered countywide.
